Pates is an abreviation I just made up for the Pants party this weekend featuring Kato and Frames. It works if you think about it.

I'm pretty excited for this saturday as we're getting together two sick DJs who know each others style really well, and are also big fans of each other, meaning that there's gonna be some sick chemistry bopping round that bar that I think y'all will enjoy.

To give you a little sampler of the excellent music taste of the blokes involved, I've got a little mixtape that my boy Frames threw together of some jams that he's really feelin' at the moment.

Alfa-Better

Alfa is an artist I've got a lot of time for. Out of Los Angeles, you might be familair with his name if you fellow the record label Binary who is currently responsible for some of the nicest releases going around from groups like LexiconDon, Keenhouse and a swag of others.

While the first track I heard from this bro was his delightful remix of NightWaves hit single 'Sweet Carrie', his other releases have him classed as an electro artist with equal parts pop and swagger in a similar mould to Fred Falke without the bass guitar, or Florrie without the girl parts. He sent over a few of the tracks he has had released recently and it's safe to say that while they represent a slight change in his style, they're still of great quality. It's safe to say that the summer style inherent in most Binary artists had had an influence on these tracks, which I'm all for. As the temp warms up in Sydney, it's time to ditch the snuggies and sip beer in boardies by the beach. bam. And if the Binary crew read this, can I suggest perhaps that instead of letting summer fade away in beautiful Cali, how about a label trip downunder? You can bunk at my house while your write sweet music and I'll pretend I'm Louie Austen. Think about it.

One artist that I'm glad I found out about is the Scuola Furano. He's an Italian house stallion nailing quality productions, and he's been around for a while. A few months back I featured a bunch of tracks of an EP that he released that were incredibly good. The EP was a homage to 90s house and a throw back era where loops would go on for 10 minutes and never get old.

I'm determined to help make this man a household name within my group of friends, as I'm tired of having to explain who he is every time I play his tracks and I get asked about them. What better way to halt this trend then by telling you about it here, online, in writing for all to see!

This guy is good and you should know about him.

Sydney bros I always get excited about are the Generic Collective. If you follow Groove City you would've heard me talking about them by now. They throw killer parties when they can, and have recently been lucky enough to play up at Splendour in the Grass. Big achievement, however it doesn't look like they'll be slowing down anytime soon with a set at Parklife on the cards, as well as another insane party to be thrown on Friday the 17th of September at Club 77.

These guys are all closet hip hop heads any when they throw down you know it's gonna be way to legit for most. This up coming party, called Way 2 Fonky is headlined by fellow Sydney bro, Mike Who, a talent rising up through the turntable scene. I recently caught him filling in for a regular on FBi 94.5 and the boy has game. Mike has made a mixtape to help promoted the party, and if you're into your West Coast, G-funk tunes you won't want to miss a beat.

Masaki is a local Sydney bloke who has been around for a minute. I first met him at a gig where despite playing back to back, we threw down completely different styles and I was thoroughly impressed with his tropical tech house set despite knowing absolutely nothing about it.

Turns out the kid can produce as well. He's been at it for a little while, and after a recent name change, he's beginning to enjoy his first bit of success with his latest single enjoying some radio airtime on Triple J courtesy of other Sydney bros, Yolanda Be Cool. This led to support from other artists including Tom Piper, Blaze Tripp as well as Camel all the way from Italy. Short story is that it's a great single, and at a young age and with passion to boot, Masaki just might have what it takes to go places in this biz.

You'll like him if you like Mowgli, Solo, Renaissance Man or any other tropical bros. Get involved.

Here's more music I've been sitting on fo' a month.

When I was in school, I was in a lot of organisations. I did music, and sports and well yeah a heaps bunch more things you probably don't care about. The one thing that was awesome was being the tallest person in the student body. Bang!

I bet when BitFunk was at school he was the biggest bad ass in the student body. There's no way you get a funk swagger like he has from reading between the lines. Have a listen to his remix of LexiconDon below and tell me I'm wrong.

Lexi on the other hand would have been the kids behind the art room dropping tabs of acid and vomiting up rainbows. The guys have made a proper impact with their singles to-date, and in between the time of them sending me this promo, and me posting it, their album has come out on iTunes and bang! It's really really good. Search for it and enjoy it.

As the weather finally begins to warm up a bit in Australia, I'm looking forward to two things. Being able to sleep naked again, and enjoying a lo-fi summer. Whammy.

Here's a track I've been sitting on for months.

A nice record label, Shiny Disco Club, sent me a promo for one of their artists called Kartell. He's a young French producer and DJ who's gain the attention of other French touch producers including Thony Ritz and Go Go Bizkitt. He's a got a style which is addcitive and designed for the big room. His EP (which may be out now, been sitting on this for a while) is going to feature remixes from a who's who of blog haus killers from 2010 including Mix Chopin, Night Drugs and Go Go Bizkitt. A Sydney producer who is going places is The Gripp. We first featured this bloke not long ago after he sent me his remix of Kavinsky as well as a sweet little original track. While the production quality was a touch raw, the sounds incorporated within the tracks was downright sublime; a fuse of rythmic guitar loops, sweet drum patches in a manor that was quite refreshing. Since then, boy has been extremely busy in the studio working his way through a mountain of remix requests including his first official track which will be upon us shortly.

In keeping an eye on this chap I noticed he'd put out another stellar remix recently of Amari, a group I know little about. You'll like it if you enjoy The Twelves, Fred Falke and the weather during Spring. Keep your eye on this fella as his non-conformist style has he ear-marked for a bright future in the biz. Hiatus!

Yo so my boy Cadillac out of Melbourne has been deep deep deep in the studio recently. Since they/he burst onto the scene a few months ago with their monster track Make You Feel, the hype has been kind of ridiculous. Most of the hype has been me by the way. And I'm cool with that. Fella knows what's up. Which was rewarded in the dudes smashing out a couple of nice live sets in recent times, one with Phantoms Revenge out of France, and another incredible set at the Splendour in the Grass festival in Woodford Queensland.

Guys are yo classic producers who have started DJ. What this means is that they have an amazing collection of tunes that most of us have never heard before and they mix on lap tops. Which I'm cool with. Evidence of this has also started compiling across Cadillac's SoundCloud where some tight sets for various radio stations have sprung up leaving punters scratching their heads and tapping their feet.

Out of Switzerland, Digital Human describe themselves as "two lazy brothers gettin it on". That's it. And I'm ok with it.

Digital Human prefer to let their producing do the talking, with an unassuming catalogue of dope original tunes and a couple of stellar remixes in a style which is hard to pigeon hole. It's not 'nu disco', it's not electro or house but rather it's just great tunes engineered for y'all to get down to. Dezlin is a bloke out of Culver City in the good ole' United States of America. He's always been a fan of electronic music and enjoys mucking around with his own interpretations of songs by some of his favourite artists such as LCD Soundsystem and Darwin Deez. He told me that he's new to rummaging around the blog world, be it both as a punter downloading fresh beats as well as a promoter of his own material. The music he makes is kind of like a mellow Armand Van Helden, it's filled with fresh loops and clever re-interpretation. While simple, it's extremely effective and enjoyable. BetaTraxx are a group out of Los Angeles that make music in a style I don't normally find appealing. How ever after checking out their remix of Kelis that they sent over it's clear their talent bridges the gap between my electro disdain and my melody appreciation. They were the group behind the catchy single 'Foxtrot' that got the remix treatment from LightsoverLA which was quite a dope tune, and a dope remix as well. The treatment of Kelis is quite extroidinary, and reminds me of the kind of work we've seen in recent times from 'The Kids are radioactive' and Lazertag, being hard-hitting electronica with an undeniable pop influence about it. This will slay dancefloors.

Splendour in the grass was really really good. Normally I try and steer clear of music festivals in Sydney when the line-up is absolutely jaw dropping as the crowds who swarm in usually aren't the most pleasant folk on steroids. Two genius ideas to help eliminate this at Splendour? Put it in the middle of no where up at Woodford in QLD, and also only have DJs playing between the bands, and therefore not inviting people to rave for hours on end to the likes of MSTRKRFT (boo!), Aoki (boo!) and other creeps who merely cater to the lowest common denominator. In fact, with the exception of The Only (whoever they are) and some creep from Red Bull who put up a portable stage near the tents and played Warp at 11.50am on the last day, there wasn't too much typical Sydney festival behaviour to be found. Everybody was polite, free spirited and genuinely stoked to watch bands from all over the world do their thing.

Highlights of the festival for myself were undoubtedly Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem who backed up from their stunning sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne to absolutely amaze us all with the quality of their live show. Here's a couple of remixes you might have missed.

On top of this, Two Door Cinema Club were simply electric, Florence and the Machine was incredible, in fact Florence's stage presence was up there as the absolute best. The 20 000 person coliseum was in a stunned silence as she bellowed out hit after hit leaving us all dazed. The Strokes were at the best and right up there with the best live bands I've seen. In all the whole thing was great and if you're in the southern hemisphere you should do whatever is in your power to do it for yourself next year. Cannot recommend that highly enough!

A little while ago we posted some tunes by an American duo called 'This One's for Cody'. They had some amazingly unique electro bootlegs of dope hip hop tunes that I personally got very excited about. Being a bit of a party DJ myself, it's always hard trying to bridge the gap between playing as many Will Smith song's as possible, and keeping the energy up in a big room, and these dudes seem to have those skills on tap.

Today I've been lucky enough to get an interview with the guys who have just made their debut original track available to the masses. It's called 'Drugs' and it's a bangin' electro anthem that is sure to send the masses crazy. It's got an energy and girth about it that is not dissimilar to fellow American producers Cold Blank and Designer Drugs. It's sure to take them places. Firstly, who are you? Where you from? Why should we give a damn about you?

We're This One's For Cody. Two college roommates who, unknowingly, are from the same hometown. We've spent our last three years in Stockton, CA (Officially voted the Most Miserable City in the United States) but we're heading back to our old stomping grounds of Orange County, California. And most importantly, if you don't give a damn now, you'll just look like a poser once we're big.

What’s in a name? I’ve seen some weird ones with strange spelling and letters missing for no reason but your strikes me as one that may have some purpose to it..

The name Ke$ha was already taken.

What’s life like in Cali? What’s the big sound that’s melting faces and breaking hearts around the scene at the moment?

Life in California is eclectic. The South is big into Dub Step while up north has a bigger appreciation for Disco. We've driven thousands of miles and have heard too many different sounds to be able to pinpoint what's biggest here.

I get almost conflicting vibes when listening to your productions some times.. They scream party djs at me but the electro vibe to them can’t be ignored.. Where do your inspirations and influences come from for your hybrid style??

We try to have our music remind listeners of the sickest/grimiest house party they have ever been to. We call it Party Electro

Logic Pro basically with some VSTs. Live, we just use Pioneer CDJ 1000s. Keep it simple.

What are you working on at the moment and what can you see in your near future???

We're scheduling another tour up and down California and we're definitely planning on popping out more remixes and originals. Hopefully an EP soon.

Too be honest, we'd heard a little about the Sydney scene in the past. We've seen videos of some incredible festivals there, and we've gotten chummy with Northie/Brain Matters, but DCUP really showed us that Aussies can do work.

Sorry about the lack of posts lately, been busy being on holidays. Not that you that matters! In celebration of my holiday beginning tomorrow morning I've decided to do one last weather report on some more amazing tunes that it's taken me too long to find in my inbox. I can tell you I'm not a fan of this habit, but it's amazing still uncovering gems.

Firstly, M.A.F out of the UK. Don't know too much about him, other than that he makes some pretty decent dubstep. The kind that I enjoy anyway. It's the kid that still keeps the music in it, maybe a touch less wobbly, but still very enjoyable. Check out his bootleg of Crave You by Sydney's Flight Facilites. Modern Eyes

Man do I feel behind the 8-ball. In listening to the recent remixes by Beni and Bit Funk of the latest single from new rock/electro rockers Jump Jump Dance Dance, it's apparent that the release of their album is going to be one of those moments that a lot of people are talking about.

Jump Jump Dance Dance (JJDD) is comprised of Chris Carter and Simon Lewicki, two Aussies currently residing in Los Angeles and although only new as a pairing, between them they have already amassed a wealth of experience – Carter as an in-demand DJ and vocalist and Simon as the mastermind behind the celebrated US Billboard #1 Club act Chili Hi Fly plus multi-ARIA nominated Groove Terminator and Tonite Only. I really really like their music, and you will as well. As discussed in their press release, the pair isn't happy with merely an album, but are already geared up for a slew of remixes as well as a live show set to combine equal and perfectly balanced amounts of rock and live synth work amongst other things. I'm hoping that perhaps they'll make it to field day. That would be dope.

While I can't offer you the 320 of Modern Eyes, their latest single (it's available for buying now so look for it!), peep the video, and below are the equally amazing remixes by none other than Beni and BitFunk. BitFunk, much like U-Tern is a Canadian disco hero. The fact he now lives in Chi City shouldn't put you off. There's clearly some good things going down North of the Border, and it's my intention to bring that to you soon.

Bliss - Mix Chopin .. Out of Canada, he's making what is fast becoming the sound of 2010, being disco house. This track is very dope, would be doper with vocals, but is definitely worth knowing about if you can relate to the likes of Go Go Bizkitt amongst others. Check his SoundCloud for more details. As you can guess by the name Anthony Atcherley, he doesn't muck around making dubstep or disco, it's straight up house music. I've been sent a few tracks by this chap that have all been quite good, his latest offering (well of a month ago) is the favourite track that I've heard. It's got those disjointed chords that I'm dying to learn how to make. This Brit has talent, and I'm looking forward to seeing where he'll take that in the near future. Black Diamond Bay

Another gem surfaced for me this morning on SoundCloud, this time from Black Diamond Bay out of Leeds in the UK.

Black Diamond Bay are a six piece band playing a pretty unique brand of electro-folk music. They've drawn comparisons with the likes of Massive Attack (Boom Boom CHK) and are also a touch similar to Breton albeit in a much less industrial manor. If Death Cab for Cutie had more synths and a female vocalist, it would sound similar to this.

Their latest single is called 'Philharmonic Bubbles', it was out in June on exceptional records. You can buy it off of iTunes, and you can also preview it below. It's quite good. There's a lot more of their catalogue on their SoundCloud most of which, again, is available on iTunes.

So just incase you haven't heard by now, for the last few months there's been some amazing parties going on down at the Civic Underground every saturday night. It's called Adult Disco, it's about legitimate house and disco music in an amazing environment and this coming saturday it is going to be absolutely off the chain.

There's more than a few names that spring to mind when you mention young Australian musical trail blazers, how ever the Civic is lucky enough to be hosting a swag of them for what is sure to be one of the best nights of the year. The stage will play host to the talents of Cadillac from Melbourne, Youth from Queensland, as well as the enigmatic Frames, Disco Delicious Andy Webb, Hentai from Disco Punx and FBi's wunderkid James "Big Time Timmy Jim" McInnes. These are names that some of you may be familiar with, but if you're not then check out some of the works below.

While you're at it, while not check out the event page on facebook. That's this Saturday the 24th of July at the Civic Underground, $10 bones before 12.

This is the Frames remix of Two Door Cinema Club. Unfortunately he made this too late to get it into the contest, but in my opinion it's worth considering as one of the nicest remixes out there. It's driven along steadily with some funky cowbell beats and glitchy synths and is another glorious remix in this man's quickly expanding catalogue of work. Cannot wait for some originals. Remix comps, DJ comps, everybody seems to be competing these days. Hard to understand what for really.

I know I'm a little late on this jam, I was in fact waiting for a whole bunch of other remixes to flood in for the same tune, but the internet was a little quieter than I thought it would be. I'm talking of course about the Cassian remix of 'What You Know' by Two Door Cinema Club. At the moment, the man is currently tearing up Europe on route to Ibiza where he will play undoubtedly the biggest gigs of his short but stellar career to date. Before he left however, he knocked out this bad boy.

He's really Cassian'd it, which I interpret to mean he's added funky arse guitar riffs, broken up the chorus and made it quite danceable and delightful. No doubt a contender for the title. Fan him on Facebook.

Couple more tasty jams for you from the realm of SoundCloud this week. Some of these have been around for a little while, but always worth sharing quality work!

Yaaman is out of the Ukraine and having recently made the switch from producing hip hop to dance music, has shown signs of promise with some french touch inspired tracks. 'Only You' is a pretty uplifting house tune, not a bad attempt at all and you can't help but feel with a little more time in the genre he may be able to produce some really special tracks. Toomy Disco is an absolute dude. Only found out about this Argentinian yesterday from a friend, but it seems that why I've been sleeping, he has been perfecting a sound that is oh so cosmic. Firstly, I almost wet myself when I watched this video.

Secondly, wow that music posted by Murray yesterday was amazing. Really dug the feel of the OHYEAH track. We've been lucky enough to receive great music from a lot of talented American artists this year such as LBCK, This One's For Cody, Beat Connection, the Binary crew as well as Wine & Cheese. Seems there's an amazing movement going on over there similar to the surge Australia enjoyed during it's summer months.

After scouting more info on OHYEAH I came across his other track on SoundCloud, a remix of Wes from Wine & Cheese, and after one listen (and now 5 later) I'm hooked. It's got everything I like in a song. Reminiscent of some of Light Year's recent work, being with a hint of sample, some grinding leads and some dope beats which drive it hard. I really think you ought to know about this one.

NB: as it turns out, he is actually from Germany. Think imma head to Europe.

We ♥ Binary. The Los Angeles based artist collective and label have hit us with their latest promo and, as per usual, it's stellar. LexiconDon aren't a new partnership, but unless you're from North America or an absolute blog-hawk you may not be entirely familiar with what they've done to-date.

During 2008, Alex Koons and Fabian Ordorica got together to form a synthpop duo after being inspired by all the right elements. Their debut album, 'Pink + Blue' is a tour de force of funk-laden synthpop, built around heartfelt lyrics and memorable hooks. 2009 saw their group take on a different appearance with the addition of Sam Gabbard (guitar) and Matteo Eyia (drums) to create an enigmatic live show which supported the likes of Little Boots, Neon Indian, Class Actress, Toro y Moi, and MADRAD.

December Sunset is the 'oh so Binary' debut single of their upcoming full length album, which will be available in August. It's a lovers anthem built around arpeggiated bass, swooning pan synths and the occasional vocal harmony. It's truly about as organic as electronic music can sound. The sound is not dissimilar to fellow Binary peeps Alpha and Nightwaves, and also draws comparison to Toro Y Moi, probably with a touch more 'fi' however. You'll like it if you still buy music.

As a bonus, the amazingly under the rader U-Tern has provided his remix of the track available for free download (in 320 y'all!). This Canadian producer/DJ/radio host caught my attention a while back when D Cup used the dub version of his Britney Speers remix for an amazing personal mash up. I've always wanted to give him a write-up and perhaps this be the perfect motivation! Stay Tuned!

You may have noticed the banner ad above this post. I have always wanted to keep Groove City simple. Ultimately, everything Max and myself do with this blog is about the music - and perhaps our opinions may follow a close second. We were approached by a company who wanted to use our site for ad space. Initially I said no, but then I had an idea.

Australian Youth Against Cancer (AYAC) is a youth charity based in Sydney, Australia. One of my best mates founded AYAC earlier this year and I honestly can't believe how successful it's been so far. I have tried to help out where I can. But the truth is I don't help out much at all really... in fact I do hardly anything now. This is largely because he and I have a leisure-based relationship. Charity work takes up a shitload of his time, so when we hang out we have fun, discuss quantum theory and break shit.

So that I can sleep better at night, all the money I make from ads will go straight to AYAC. I don't know how much that will be, but every time you read this blog for more awesome music you'll be contributing in some small way. So thank you. You can become a friend of AYAC on Facebook.

Now for the music...

OHYEAH is perhaps a slightly over-enthused moniker, but I'll allow it. He sent me the following track privately with a personalised message. 'How nice', I thought, 'he's not some c*nt whoring himself out to every crappy blog in existence'. I like this guy.

I don't know his full name unfortunately, but he is based in New York (I think). Really all you care about is the music - and it is amazing. For me, this track epitomises the music I want Groove City to promote. It's tightly produced, brilliantly constructed and downright funky. Think of it as 21st century disco. Elements of the 70s are there, but they've just been run through an effects unit and the entire package is flawless. I love this track. Even the title is awesome.

Feelin' dirty

Down n Dirty DJs is a name that I had heard around Sydney. Sadly, this wasn't on account of reputation for their abilities, but rather the reputation of one of the venues they frequented as amongst the biggest Facebook spammers of all time. While in the past, the association with this particular venue has in some circles spoken more about your ability to market yourself than your prowess as a DJ, the fact of the matter is that gradually a few names have begun to rise out of the relentless pursuit for crowd superiority thankfully due to their abilities as producers.

Down n Dirty DJs in this case have joined the likes of Moonchild in growing out of the cave and into the big bad world of house music, where their sample driven originals and edits have quietly begun gaining notoriety amongst a sleuth of dedicated SoundCloud devotees.

Thadz and Jimmy have been DJing together, across borders for around 5 years. During this time they've held residencies across various notorious night spots in both Sydney as well as the Gold Coast, as well as various other international destinations they've no doubt met along their travels. Despite currently living in different states, the pair maintain their partnership, which has involved producing for the last 3 years.

And that's all I'll say about the World Cup. Except that beautiful football triumphed, and I am of the firm opinion that the better and more deserved team won.

Some more fine music from the depths of my cluttered inbox. In fact this is probably the first time I've posted a track that's come via the SoundCloud dropbox. Usually I receive email notifications telling me that someone has shared some shitty track with 500 people and I don't bother. Other blogs will post it - even if it's shit. But this was limited to myself and one other individual. Dezlin must read the blog... I like this guy/girl already.

I have no information on him/her though. Absolutely none. No facebook, myspace... nothing. But hopefully he'll get back to me and I can fill you in on what makes Dezlin tick.

This track however is wickedly funky. LCD Soundsystem's latest album offering is brilliant, and Dezlin has made 'Home' slightly more club-friendly but very easy to listen to. Overall I do feel the vocals could be emphasized more to give the track further depth and emotion, but the beat is awesomely simple and a pleasure to groove about the house to. I checked the inbox the other day for the first time in about 2 weeks to find circa 200 new emails. I planned on filtering through them, but most of them are labelled 'New Mash-Up' or are form artists who choose to spell their DJ moniker phonetically. I am very judgmental when it comes to names now. It saves me opening the email and then using my bandwidth only to discover more shit house music. But I did find some solid gold.

Computer Magic, or Danielle Johnson, is a Brooklyn-based DJ and producer. She's 21 years young and recently decided to ditch the college pursuits (temporarily) and lay down some tracks. This is a good thing.

I love her sound. Very raw, emotive and incredibly up-beat at the same time. The vocals are heavily filtered which only adds to the dream-like feel the tracks produce. The overall product is thoroughly enjoyable, and does follow in the footsteps of those who tread the Neon Indian 'Dream Wave' road - but that is not to say Computer Magic isn't awesome. She most definitely is. Electronic Fences is my pick of her assorted tracks, but I'll throw in another one. I'm a nice guy.

It seems like ages ago that Murray first blew my mind by posting up a track by Beat Connection out of Seattle. It was a few months back, right in the midst of New Wave fever sweeping over the world, and the track, 'Same Damn Time' gave me one of those feelings where things just seem so simple. It's kind of like watching Donnie Darko.

Anyway, I was really excited to get back in touch with the guys again to hear that they have released a full EP for free. The aptly named 'Surf Noir' EP is a collection of beats, vocoder lyrics and pan synths that can easily be the soundtrack to any mood that you're feeling. The comparisons with heavy weights of the genre such as Toro Y Moi and Washed out will flow in as they should, the EP soars about 2 foot above sea level and caress your ear drums like a gentle wave at the beach.

Wow. Perhaps the moral to this tale is that it's very hard to describe, but amazingly easy to listen to.

The above photo is irrelevant, yet amusing.
For the last two weeks everybody has been talking about the Spank Records Remix competition for the ridiculously succesful single by Aussie lads Yolanda Be Cool and Dcup, 'We No Speak Americano'. Regardless of how you feel about the original or the remixes that came out of all of this, the response from bedroom producers all over the country for the competition has successfully welcomed another swarm of budding professionals onto the market. I for one think this is a good thing as it creates exposure for people who are doing good things who might of otherwise gone unnoticed.

A lot has been made also of the top 3 remixes as named by the judges. Opinion seems to be divided as to which track should have taken top honours, although given the opposing styles of all the winners it's difficult to truly put a case together without over analysing the production techniques used. Despite this, I really liked the winning remix, by a cat called Josh Mc who turned Americano into a dark, techno roller coaster of a tune that lurks in the shadows and calls on you to dance dirty in 16 bar increments. For good measure you can have a listen here, to the winners as well as the ten runners up.

For most, Josh Mc came completely out of the blue. I'm lucky enough to know the chap so I thought I'd take a minute to ask him a few questions to help you get to know him a little better.

GrooveCity: Tell us about yourself: What’s your name? where you from? What’s your quickest time over the hundred metres
My names Josh McMahon I’m from Sydney and I live on the north shore. I’d have to say I’d run the hundred at around 128bpm

GC:A lot had changed for you in the last fortnight right? Is it your hair? I think the people would like to hear the words from the man himself. What’s the big news!

I won the “We Speak No Americano” remix competition for Spank Records and Sweat It Out. Biggest shock I’ve had in awhile getting the phone call regarding win. Right in the middle of exams as well….can’t wait to see how I went.

GC:At what point did you think that you might’ve made something special?

I guess when I think about it the way lead vocal bass turned out while I was taking on the remix; it set the tone for the whole song. It let me change the entire mood of the song and darken it up a bit. I thought it might have been a little too different from the original, but after a bit of positive feed back it sat a little better.

GC:Tell us about your musical journey? How’d you get to where you are today?

I’ve always been around music; I’ve played musical instruments all my life but never really liked them. I started playing round with things like virtual DJ making little mixes to play in my car. After getting shown the ropes on how to DJ from my mate Dan Baartz, who I frequently DJ with, I found my way into producing and haven’t really looked back. In away it’s taken over mixing completely still love it and do it when ever I can though

GC:Grocery list of the things in your studio for the interested kids out there:

I’m pretty bare at the moment. All I got is desktop running ableton 8, Massive and Albino as my main synths as well as a range of other Vst synths n effects. But all of that changed the other day when I won the remix competition. Now I’m the proud owner of Komplete 6, Novation LaunchPad and Traktor pro. Would love to by a keyboard midi controller as well but don’t have the $’s at the moment

GC:Has your recent success changed your life at all? Have you been inspired to pursue another direction? And when will your remix be available to drop in da clubz?

Winning the competition was the biggest confidence builder in relation to music production. It made me want to push my self further and see what’s possible. Been doing a couple interviews like this one which is a bit of a change but I’m liking the attention…haha. It’s all given me a lot more motivation to produce more music because it’s shown me I might actually know what I’m doing behind a computer and a keyboard. This whole thing has inspired me to try and get my name out there a bit more and hopefully get known for what I’m doing. The tracks going to be released in the next couple weeks, sent it out to get mastered today actually so hopefully shouldn’t be too long. Pretty excited to see my track on beatport…

GC:What do you do away from music? What’s a typical weekend for you and when does it start? Tuesday?

Apart from music I’m at university. I’m in my 3rd year of a bachelor of science at Sydney university, there everyday of the week so I’ve learnt to deal with the worst when it comes to post-party morning education….so I try to start my weekend as early as possible, although I do work weekends at a bar in Surry Hills so that kinda cancels it out. But when I am out on the town you can usually find me in some of Sydney’s finer (filthier) establishments

GC:Have you ever thought about going on to masterchef?

I tried but my milkshake just didn’t bring enough boys to the yard

GC:The world is about to end, you can grab three things to bring with you to safety on one of those big boats from 2012. What three things can’t you live without?

Firstly I’d have to go out and buy a brand new Mac book pro, because my computer just doesn’t cut it and music production and music in general has become such an integral and therapeutic part of my life. Secondly I’d probably bring my decks and thirdly maybe a camera so I could catch a few snaps of me and the end of the world.

GC:What’s in the pipeline in terms of your musical career from now on? More work in the studio? A national victory lap tour?

I’ve got a lot in the pipeline now especially with all the software/equipment i now have. Finished a new track the other day, which you can check out on my soundcloud, also I’ve got 2 or 3 more in the working now. Depending how things go they could be done in the next week. Would love to see a few gigs coming out of this will have to stick my head out a bit to catch them tho. But on holidays now so got nothing really holding me back.

GC:Can you DJ and where are we likely to catch you playing (if anywhere)?

Yeah I can Dj and I love it, haven’t been playing out recently apart from a few things here and there with mates. Going to have to start putting in the hours tho

GC:Who is your dream girl?

As you are aware, we've been intrigued by LightsoverLA for some time now. We really like them, and what we like more is how exciting it is hearing new tracks and trying to guess what kind of track it's going to be. We wanted to know more about the person behind the name, so today I was lucky enough to have some interesting questions answered by Storm, the front (and now only) man of this West Coast project.

GROOVECITY:Firstly thanks heaps for taking the time to answer a few questions, I get the feeling that as more and more people begin to learn your name they’d like to try and learn more about the people behind the name.

• Who is LOLA and what’s in a name? You’re from Phoenix so what’s the deal with the geographical confusion? And I’ve also seen this spelt and punctuated in a number of different ways.. can you finally help us settle the argument?

LOLA: LightsoverLA is me Stormy Logan..I was driving down the 202 and Lights Over Phoenix came into mind ( a few years back we had some UFO thing over Phoenix) I didn't wanna sound all conspiracy theory with my name so I just went with one of my favorite cities, Los Angeles. And actually I am currently living between Phoenix and LA so the name is KINDA making sense. The spelling/Puncuation thing was kinda funny at first cause I just left it up to interpretation but OFFICIALLY its LightsoverLA all one word...why? I dunno just to be different I guess and Lights Over LA just looks kinda lame in my opinion :)

• LightsoverLA seemingly came out of nowhere earlier this year with a swag full of remixes and edits but this wasn’t really a case of bedroom producers finally getting some material out therw.. can you tell us about your musical background and how you finally came about creating this dance super group?

LOLA: My background is metal/hardcore straight up. I had been touring/working for metal bands since I got out of high school. Basically I got tired of trying to find 4 other dudes on the same page and be in a touring metal band so I said fuck it and downloaded Ableton and learned all I could learn. I had always liked dance music but it was just kinda a joke with friends to throw on some lame trance record and make fun of it.

• What has the transition been like from band to electronic duo? What are the major differences?

LOLA: The biggest reason I stopped wanting to be in bands was because I cant stand relying on other people. Since the beginning of LightsoverLA I have had different people involved in different ways, but from here on out its gonna be me. Nothing against anyone that has been involved but this project is my baby and I am pretty protective over it.

• There’s been rumour floating around of an extravagant live show in the works… is there any truth to this and if so what’s involved? Have you had the opportunity to bring it out during and performances so far?

LOLA: Coming from a live band background I want to do this as legit/live as I can do it with electronic music. Yes it’s all based off a computer but I want to bring a show to people. So far any performances I have done have been mainly DJ based but I use Ableton live so I wouldn't/wont really consider myself a DJ. But I also realize that I am gonna be booked in those kinda club settings so I want to be very versatile and be able to play anywhere in any setting.

• A lot of talk around the blogosphere has been about your inability to stick within a genre with your remixes… do you take much consideration from what is said out their on the internet?

LOLA: I was hoping you would ask me this one haha...Ok the first blog to ever "call" me out about my lack of a genre was you guys..It was probably 5 in the morning and I don't think I have ever let a review bother me so much before haha. So as far as consideration on what is said yes...I let it bother me to the point of losing sleep BUT at the same time I love so many different genres of electronic music I just feel like this day in age it shouldn't matter TO much..Your not gonna see me releasing a trance/grindcore/minimal album but I feel like to stand out you have to be doing something different. I don't expect EVERYONE to love everything I do but if the same person who hates my indie dance track loves my dubstep track then I will have accomplished what I want. And I love you Aussies now so its all good :)

• So far we’ve seen LOLA tackle indie anthems, bangor mashups, dubstep and all areas in between… how do you go about determining what direction your remixes will take? And is there an overall mission statement for the group? What are LOLA’s goals?

LOLA: Honestly I just drop a track into Ableton and whatever comes out in the first ten minutes is usually where I am gonna go with the track. I like to keep the original vibe of the track unless the track sucks, and after a few commissioned remixes that sucked I won’t remix anything I don’t like anymore. Honestly my goals are to make a track BETTER then it was before or at least danceable. But mainly my goal is to make Murray post dubstep tracks :)

• For the kids out there can you give us a quick grocery list of the items in your studio?

LOLA: A slowly dying macbook pro, Axiom 25 Midi Controller (best investment ever), JBL monitors, APC40 (for live performances) and probably 20k dollars worth of downloaded softsynths/samples which I fully plan on buying when I start making money doing this whole thing!

• What’s in the near future for LOLA? Official remixes? Record labels? Originals? Tours (coming down under for an extravagant live show?)

LOLA: I am starting a label with one of my best friends Travis who is also a producer and we have huge plans for the label. I have worked in the music business long enough to know that its not that hard to do this stuff all yourself and in the long run its the smart decision. We just got distribution through Juno, Beatport, iTunes etc so we will be releasing an upcoming LightsoverLA EP hopefully in the next few months. I am gonna continue to do bootleg remixes cause I love doing it and I don't get to many official remix request yet and the ones I have got are kinda meh. As far as touring I actually just joined up with a company out of San Francisco called GreenElectronic (http://www.greeneproductions.net/) and on the roster they have some awesome up and coming DJ/Producers and as a collective we have some awesome ideas. And I am doing EVERYTHING I can to get myself down under its one of my dreams to go there so any promoters out there hit me up!!

• Living in America, you’re lucky enough to be treated to fantastic everyday products that are less common in Australia, such as (mother fuckin’) ranch dressing and Dr. Pepper. Can you send me some over please?

LOLA: When I come down there I will bring you a box of each I promise!

• You’re on a plane flying over to Glastonbury and your plane crashes leaving you washed up on an exotic yet uninhabited island. Fortunately you were travelling well over weight restrictions and consequently have a lot of your favourite everyday items to choose from. What are three possessions you couldn’t live without?

LOLA: Macbook, Wireless Internet Card, In N Out Burger :)

• Justin Bieber lives next door to you. Are you a) jumping the fence to give him a piece of your mind (and what would this be?) b) bringing him baked goods in exchange for some studio time with him (and what would you bake him?) or c) get him to sign everything you own and spend the rest of your days crying with happiness ..

LOLA: I am gonna choose B. I would bring him baked weed brownies just to see that kid stoned.

Flying Solo

So I'm sure you all heard by now that Aeroplane have split up. News broke last week via there facebook page. Seeking irreconcilable differences Stephen and Vito have gone their seperate ways with Vito remaining on to operate under the same name while he assures us Stephen will pursue his own sure fire hit projects.

Rumours exist about why they've split, decision was mutual but there's always underlying reasons which apparently I'm not allowed to speculate about.

This parting gift came out this morning. After not being able to complete a remix of Crave You by Flight Facilites, Aeroplane instead made a mash up. Perhaps the greatest mash up of 2010? Only time will tell.

But seriously this one was in their 500th essential mixtape and created quite a storm. Now it is free for you all to overplay and shower with. Good good.

Hard to believe it's been almost a year since the passing of Michael Jackson. This previously unreleased track from Louis La Roche is quite incredible. I don't think I can do it justice so I'll just share the press release that accompanied it.

This friday will mark one year since the world lost one its greatest entertainers, the King Of Pop that is, Mr Michael Jackson.

In the months after his death last year, so many people were doing remixes, sampling him or dropping his name in a track. It almost became a 'cool thing' to be associated with him, it turned tributes into being a trend. It didn't seem right for me to do something then, i did my Thriller remix in 2008 and to do something again last year would make it seem like i was just jumping on the bandwagon, like i was doing it with no meaning.

So i've been sitting on this track for a long time now. Wondering whether i should share it or not. Now seems like the only fitting time, so it's now your never. This is my tribute to the man that made me want to start doing what i do in the first place. It's called 'Michael & Me', enjoy it.

The Rules of Vuvuzela

It seems 2 weeks ago nobody knew what a Vuvuzela was. The incessant drone of b flat that's raped television coverage around the world has received mixed reviews from players, coaches and spectators but regardless of how you feel about it, FIFA has made it clear they're hear to stay.

Producers have jumped at the idea of a universally recognised noise maker, experimenting with samples and iPhone apps and even just track titles in an attempt to try capture the magic that is a plastic horn, and here is an absolutely amazing example of just how good they can be from our favourite Melbournian Swick. Hopefully this guy will be right to come up to Sydney soon (finally). After all the hype I'm guaranteeing a huge amount of people can't wait to see Danny in action.

Wes Cadwell is a man with many iron's in the fire. The 24 out of Santa Monica, California is the face behind a number of production styles, all differing, all interesting, and all based around classic house music. His main project which you may be familiar with is Westorius, where he mashes up boogie and funk with hip hop lyrics. Interesting combination but it works a treat. Recently he shared one of his tracks from his latest project, Wine & Cheese, aptly named as he's a classy fellow, which is straight up ol' school disco refunked in a groovy way you can sip cognac too. You can also preview his latest below.

Regular segment round 2: SoundCloud music ravage has resulted in new tracks from some of my favourite groups. Word.

Firstly, Go Go Bizkitt returns to the fold once more, this time with one of his best remixes to-date in my opinion. He's taken one of the house anthems of the year and turned it into a fresh-summer jam worthy of any big room. LightsoverLA are crazy talented. They're also scarily diverse. One of the best things about getting on of their tracks is trying to decipher what kind of song it's going to be. Your best guide is usually the artist that they remix. Storm and Hector have a knack from taking the original artists style, drinking it in and spewing it out similar but better. To Two Door Cinema Club they made an indie anthem. To Deadmau5 they made my favourite dubstep track of the year.

Considering the Norwegian group 'Casio Kids' background in vintage synths and bubblegum pop it's not surprising that LightsoverLA have turned this into a deep indie/disco jam with swelling bass, that doesn't sound unlike some of Grum's work. This kind of reminds me of what Sigur Ros would sound like in da club. You'll really like it.

Ey! Max Smart and 3Hundreds jumped at the most recent Sweat It Out remix competition. This year it was the joyful, albeit run into the ground, We No Speak Americano. Here is the end result. Bit raw with simple edits and samples but very bouncy. I like it because it is not the original. FYI, Max recently got his hands on a MicroKorg and someone who knows how to use one. Remixes a plenty.

Voltage is the union of house wizard Joel Dickson (Nile Delta, Riot in Belgium) and Cut Copy’s own Dan Whitford. They've gotten together on what is shaping up to be a pretty special project. According to the Cutters' Blog this is one of those project that has been around for a while, but is only now just beginning to see the light of day.

'All Night' is the pair's debut release. You can buy it off of Beatport with remixes from Munk, Azari & III, as well as In Flagranti to name a few, and you should because it's really quite good. It's driving cosmic house disco music with some sweet lyrics and even sweeter synths that I've got a feeling is going to be played a lot round the festival circuit this year. Not by Guetta, but by Aeroplane. I was going to preview the original in poor quality buuuut I managed to track down the radio edit on Too Many Sebastians. Enjoy. Then purchase.

Bxentric x Louie Austen

Louie Austen is a 63 year old jazz singer from Vienna in Austria. Some of you might remember him from the Flight Facilities remix of Turbo Love by the Bag Raiders, where he crooned, like a boss. It turns out that he has become quite a player within the electronic music world and August will see the release of a remix album for his latest single 'Make Your Move'.

Bxentric on the other hand is a one-man DJ and two-person production group from London. You may remember him from his remix of the Flight Facilities tune Crave You which was one of the first unofficial remixes to show up and was received well around the blogosphere. In his hometown, Bxentric is know as one of the hardest working DJs around town, with his ingenious mixing grabbing the attention of Andy George and Jaymo who asked him to be a resident at their infamous Moda parties.

Bxentrix has just remixed Louie Austen. This won't be available til around August, how ever it's worth knowing about.

Priors x Knightlife

Knightlife is a name I always get excited about. Knightlife is Mike Gamwell from Melbourne, a prodcuer and DJ who rolls with the Cutters crew.

I think I recall from an old interview that the guy started producing dance music after a uni assignment in which he made a short soundtrack that was really well received by his peers. Since then he's gone on to release two EPs as well as some amazing remixes, most recently of 'The Swiss' with their acclaimed track Bubble Bath. It seems that Mike had also been busy recently on another project to no avail unfortunately, as I have for you today his rejected remix of the Priors track 'What You Need'.

This track missed the cut on the remix release from January this year which was highlighted by artists such as Grum, Hey Champ and Dcup, but it's a slow jam with a slight tribal influence.

He's back! Apologies for the hideous... *insert excuses you care not for here*. Isn't Max just awesome?

Music! All credit goes to my mate Andrew for recommending to me this dynamic disco duo from Boston. They are Tony Saputo and Frank Demaria. And I know what you're thinking... yes they do sound like they belong in the Godfather, or perhaps at least dabble in some underworld dealings of some sort. This is not true... they make Disco House instead under the guise of Swivel Hips. And it fucking rocks. My music taste has undergone reconstructive surgery lately and I've struggled to find some beats to fill the void, but no more.

They like their filters and off-beat vocal samples. They also appear to enjoy simple melodic hooks. Which is nothing new I guess, but the complete package is executed brilliantly. I would define disco house as Swivel Hips. 'Nuff said.

Here is one original released last year and a stellar remix of Timbaland and Justin Timberlake. In case you are wondering, they have an EP due out in the next month or two, and they are signed to Dazed Recordings.

The Wait Is Over .. Kinda

For a minute now you've heard the murmur that has been me telling you how much I like Cadillac. Today, an even larger piece of the pie has fallen in my lap, and I've two more excellent tracks to share with you from the sun-drenched lads from south the border.

From their agent:
"Consider these as teasers, the first of a bunch these guys have in the trunk, a yummy entree to whet the appetite. This is the soup to the later steak, the curtain raiser to the headliner, the undressing to the sex, the yawn to the nap, if you will".

This music is really good. 'Make You Feel' is drenched in sweet sampling, smooth keys and head-nod worthy guitar solos. It's simple enough to enjoy with the windows down on a car drive, and excellent enough to make the driver next to you fender-bend you just so he can ask about your excellent taste in music. 'Believe' show cases more of their up-beat style, which is reminiscent of Moullinex. Absolutely top draw.

It's a matter of time before these guys become the darlings of the scene as is their destiny. Just remember where you heard the murmur first.

This One's For Cody come from Newport Beach in California. They make a style which can only be refereed to as "party electro". It's combination dirty electro used to make bootlegs of some of the most popular pop songs going around. TOFC know what it takes to make kids flock to the dance-floor and although outside of Cali they're new to a lot of us, the boys have already made a name for themselves opening for the likes of Super Mash Bros, placing first in votes in a T-Pain Remix contest, becoming residents for popular electro event Get Bent! and DJ'ing for its sister project Risque Nights. As they assure me though, this is only the beginning.

I first heard about Visitor when Murray posted the Monsieur Adi remix of Los Feeling right back in the beginning of Groove City. As it turns out, Los Feeling will be having it's official release on June 21 on Vulture. Expect a remix from Alan Braxe. Also expect an excellent B-side, called Love.

It's a blend of new wave electronica with driving pop hooks that entice and hypnotoad. Very Fred Falke.

Not long ago we featured the talents of Dutch producer Shook. He had just remixed Penguin Prison and his original track 'Something About You' really had me feeling his style. Currently we're still waiting on the release of his EP (rumour is that it' imminent) but to tide you over I've found a few more of his remixes bouncing around SoundCloud and I thought I'd share to further whet your appetite.

Unless you've been on a Tuesday bender unable to listen to the radio or check facebook all day, I'm sure you're all aware of the Parklife line-up announced today. The festival, which in my opinion is Sydney's best, will be returning to Kippax Lake on Sunday October the 3rd for it's 10th time, the line-up very much a reflection of the times.

I'm hoping the likes of Classixx and Holy Ghost, Grum and Groove Armada as well as Memory Tapes and The Swiss will be here, under the big top in a more personal setting away from the gurn of the main stage.

Cut Copy will be appearing in there first Australian show in 2 years as well which is really good news. I've been playing Bright Like Neon Love again recently, it's an album that has truly stood the test of time.

Breton began life in a warehouse somewhere in South East London. Born from the creative force of musicians and filmmakers Roman Rappak and Adam Ainger and expanded recently into a multi-instrumental and visual collective with the inclusion of Ian Patterson, Daniel McIlvenny and Alex Wadey.

Under the guise BretonLABS, Breton run a slick operation of audio/visual experimentation. Remixes have been created for the likes of Is Tropical, Hatcham Social and Penguin Prison. Their short films have screened at both the London Short Film Festival and the East London Film Festival, with Breton performing a live soundtrack. Their celebrated music videos - Penguin Prison, NewIsland, 80’s Matchbox B-Line Disaster – are instant cult classics.

The second E.P. in the trilogy, entitled Sharing Notes, follows on Monday 5th July. The physical copy of this E.P. will come mounted on a hand-made circuit board with a list of components and directions which, when followed, creates a fully working synth. Just think about how boss that is for a minute.

The Well is combination grime, hip hop and church organs. Think 'White Town' in high tops.

Gonzales is such a boss. Just read his wikipedia and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Not only is he the world record holder for the longest piano solo ever (more then 27 hours), but as a Canadian Jew living in Germany he also has built a solid career around his rap. Last week we were super stoked to share with you the debut release of the very talented and sexually explicit Frames. On the back of this, the gang he remixed, AEONS got in touch with us with their side of the story.

After years apart honing their skills impersonating their punk rock heroes they got a feeling that perhaps the music game had more to it. After buying a heap of expensive equipment it has only taken one short year for them to figure out how to plug it in, turn it on and make a 5 track EP, which they've called 'Beyond the Satellites'.

The lads, Lance Gurisik and Josh Matysek, were particularly stoked to get the wizards touch of Diamond Cut on to produce the EP, the loveable rogue behind Cassette Kids, Visitor, Matt Van Schie, Delta Goodrem and every memorable remix of '09. The result is slick, informed, stargazing electro-pop from the universe next door.

The track they've sent over is called 'Where the sky meets the sea', and it's a real electronic tour de force. It's strange to consider, but the track actually has completely equal parts electro and pop. This is somewhat how I imagine groups such as Kisschasy and After the Fall would sound like in a truly 21st century setting filled with arpeggiated synths and drum machines. I really really like it. I know you will too.

Music Sounds better with Cadillac

I present to you, the 1000 remix of perhaps one of the top 3 most defining songs of our generation. The difference? This time Cadillac have dusted off the guitar amp, rolled back the snuggie and blown some summer breezes at it, not enough to disturb your cocktail umbrella however, just enough to stir it gently making that ice to vanilla liquor ratio just perfect.

Since we posted up some Cadillac jams a couple months back, they've been the name on everybody's lips. Who are they? Where can get my dosage? I wonder if they'd turn for me? How can I get my hair like Jac's?

The answers to all these questions will come in time they assure me. At the moment, the pair are anchored deep in the studio with the thermo-stat fastened to 28 and the flirtini's flowing (it's a basic champagne cocktail if you didn't know).

Marina in the sky with diamonds

A little while ago on Groove City we featured the latest tracks from Clock Opera, namely their remix of Marina and the Diamonds. On the back of this we were recently sent a hip hop track from a 21 year old rapper out of long island named Hoodie Allen.

In the words of the man himself, "the reason I think Hoodie Allen is a great fit for your blog is that you have been very receptive to Marina remixes in the past but you have never had one like mine! I have juxtaposed new school indie pop sampling with the punchy lyricism of a hip hop track. In doing so, I think I have something deceptively catchy that you might find yourself enjoying a lot".

Gotta give my man Hoodie props on this. His sampling is tight and the dude can spit a good line. This is definitely a track you've gotta peep.

Dig a bit of ambience. Think I got hooked somewhere between Sigur Ros and the filler tracks on "Bright Like Neon Payphones". Bad Panda records sent us over the latest track from NQ out of Germany, a man whose been making cut up collages out of the everyday for the past 10 years on his laptop. I got to warn you, don't listen to this alone in a dark room.

A writer, journalist and artist living in Cologne, Nils Quak resides between ambient, electronic post-digital cut-up collages and contemporary electronica, his pieces combining sonic landscapes, deconstructed rhythms and distant field-recordings into a dense blend being both highly abstract yet still emotional.

There's something about music from artists who don't send you much information that is both frustrating and intriguing. I much prefer my research done for me, and after very little effort, these tracks will be accompanied by little to no information, based upon the lack of detail from the artist who sent them to me.

Voyager18 is a time traveler self made man from Venus, looking for the past and present of the hazy analogic memories.

It's the side project of Kartell.

Both songs are quite good. Reminds me a lot of the stuff that comes out of binary which is a positive. Check it out if yo feelin' brave!

Daze

A French producer by the name of Daze emailed me a while ago with some tracks from his SoundCloud which, at first listen I was unsure of. However after a closer look at his body of work I figured this is someone that I think you should know about.

His style is a combination of the amiga 500's demoscene, chip tunes, vintage synths and electro funk. Think the kind of music that used to run out of trashbags in it's prime. When he was young, he loved trying to make music with a soft synth called noisetracker, which is the reason why his music sounds a bit like Kavinsky, Danger amongst others, as they've certainly have the same influences.

While the sound doesn't exactly appear original, there's enough freshness skill behind it to make it intriguing. It's like Kavinsky but a lot more proactive. At the moment, he is working on his first EP called "The Awakening". You can preview the title track below, and if that's anything to go by, it's an album that you'll be interested in purchasing.

Dance Club feat. Nadastrom

One of the most exciting things about Sydney last year was the emergence of a massive cohort of local up-start producers. These days everyone is familiar with the likes of Dcup, Cassian, Flight Facilities, Light Year amongst others who were able to dominate the beatport charts, but there is also a huge amount of people who produced top quality tunes as an after-thought to the rest of there assumed duties as merchants of the nightlife.

One of the groups who did this and did this well were the boys from Three Fingers. As far as I was aware they appeared out of no where with a whole bunch of stellar remixes for artists such as Calvin Harris, David Guetta and MSTRKRFT to name but a few. On top of this they were holding down some pretty impressive residencies all around Sydney and have since gone on to create one of the freshest nights to hit our city in a while with Dance Club.

Straight off the back of a massive launch in April where we saw OAF transformed into an indoor jungle, Dance Club returns to Oxford Art Factory on Saturday the 19th of June. The inaugural Dance Club was best remembered for decking out OAF like a forbidden forest which was the perfect setting for Brazil's Edu K to unleash his tropical brand of goodness on us all. This time around they're set to unveil an all-American Rave Theme on us, with Groove City favourites Nadastrom stopping in for the Sydney leg of their tour. Supports on the night will come from Kato, Awkward Boys, Mattrad, Roof, Dentum not to mention the Three Fingers boys who, from experience, are an act not to be missed.

To get you in the mood for the evening, the lads were kind enough to share with us their latest bootleg. As you might've expected, it's a homage to the group of the minute, being Nadastrom. Who is Frames?

Don't you love a good mystery? Growing up amongst a generation of Goosebump readers (R.L Stine!) has given me a real passion for the unexplained. Today I got a mysterious email from the lovely people at Falcona who were the same people who brought you the intrigue around Universe, this time introducing me to the delights of Frames.

Frames is quite different to most producers you're common with, but not unlike Boy 8-bit in his ability to fuse sounds of opposing genres together in a way to make you wiggle. He is the self-described inventor and foremost advocate of "quirk house", and while I don't know what that means I sure enjoy how it sounds. For you today, we have his latest remix of ambient electro-rockers AEONS who recently lent their own remix touch to Australia's own Lisa Mitchell (which was surprisingly fantastic), and while this may be the first you've heard of these two acts, be assured it will not be the last. Not by a long shot.

As a super surprise bonus I managed to track down another remix that Frames has looked over (the pun is in the fact the Frames can mean glasses) for Groove City favourite Cassian's huge track Friday Night. This is a mesh of tech and disco and house in a style that just makes you wanna shake rump. Check it out direct from his SoundCloud.

Munk is dope. He owns a record label and makes some beautiful music. It has been a while between releases for him however. His most recent track came out the other day and it's dope. Check it out in the video below.

The single package is complete with some amazing remixes too from the likes of Azari & III, and Shir Kahn to name a few, and the later remix I have to share with you. It's a 7 minute house classic. You'll enjoy it.

For reasons unknown my internet recently decided it wanted to just chill out. It was probably tired of being really fast all the time. Understandable really... we all need a break every now and then. Unfortunately, given my high-speed conditioning, this infuriated me when attempting to download or upload musique, or watch hilarious videos on YouTube.

Luckily Max is always on the case and has been providing you tunes for the past however long.

As I try to gather new music and make up for the multitude of posts I've been unable (or really just not bothered to do it 100 times slower than normal) to throw up, here are two little gems from the depths of my iTunes that I haven't played for some time, but remembered they are awesome.

This remix of Lisztomania is one of my all time favourites. Brilliant use of the vocals with break beats and heavy synths make this a club banger that everyone can sing along to.

What do Hot Chip, Joakim, A-Trak, Midnight Juggernauts, Munk, Tiga & Brodinski, Holy Ghost, Breakbot, The Twelves, Yuksek and Jupiter all have in common?

They're all playing at the incredible Calvi on the Rocks festival this year.

Calvi  On  The  Rocks  is  a  music  festival in Corsica an island in the Mediterranean Sea that is West of Italy, South-east of the French Mainland and North of the island of Sardinia. It's a hybrid of  electronic  music,  pop  music,  traditional  music both live  and from some of the worlds foremost  DJs. 

The  idea  of  this  festival  is  to combine  people  around sea,  sun,  holidaying in the Mediterranean  and of course, great  music.     Calvi  On  The  Rocks  takes  place  in  Calvi,  a  small  and  beautiful  town  in  the  north west  of  Corsica.   During  the  afternoon,  people  who  want  to  have  a  rest  and listen  to  music   can  stay  at  the  Octopussy  Beach  (to  party), Bout  Du  Monde  Beach  (to  relax)  or Mara  Beach. 

From  9 pm  to  2am,  there are  Dj  sets and live music  at  the  'Théâtre  de  Verdure'  near  the  sea.  After  this, everybody on the island is invited to  Club  Tao  or  Club  24  where  the  party  continues  with  all  the  acts  from  the  festival.  The whole thing of course going over 5 days.

And all we've got to offer in Australia is 2 days up in bloody Woodford.

Now maybe you're wondering why I'm talking about this considering how far away I live from Corsica, and the reasons aren't that the organisers are shipping me a case of Russian Standard Vodka for a plug, but rather that by talking about it I could get my hands on one of the best mixtapes I've heard in quite a while.

Jupiter are a group out of Paris and London in the same vein as Joakim and Cut Copy, making music that is, as they describe it, electro funk disco. They're really good. If you check out their Facebook page and scroll down you can preview some of their work. This mixtape is a taste of Calvi to come, with all the tracks being from artists who are performing at the July festival. Get on it.

Got sent an 'imaginary mash up' from a guy by the name of Passport Royale and thought it was worth sharing. Weird Al Jankovic made a name for himself in the nineties and early 2000s with his brand of "Polka Power" were he would sing mash ups with an accordion and backing band, and it's good to see his influence has rubbed off albeit it in Sweden.

This song is an imaginary mash up of Yaesayer, 2pac, Blur, Rockwell, Eurythmics, Public Enemy, Smashing Pumpkins, and Prince.

Renaissance Man

Renaissance Man has always been one of those artists that I wish I knew more about. The Finnish duo blew onto the scene in 2009 when their Debut Spraycan was released on Switch's Dubsided label. Before this however, they had already begun the house revolution in Finland which would soon sweep the world.

Since then they've released EPs on Made To Play and Sound Pellegrino, the title track 'What is Guru' becoming one of the underground hits of the year. We were lucky enough to have them gracing the stages at the electronic mess of a festival that was stereosonic, and now we are lucky enough to be able to welcome them back to Sydney to headline the Generic Collective's first birthday party at the Civic Underground on Friday the 11th of June.

For those of you who don't known, Generic Collective are the new breed of legit party goers and throwers in Sydney. With nights popping up dime a dozen every week in amongst the Sydney night life, it's testament to these lads skill and dedication that they've been able to survive a year. To date they've thrown some amazing parties at venues from the Burdekin (or is it the Viper Room?) to Phoenix Bar and there's no doubt the crowning jewel in their armour will be there first birthday at the Civic which has fast become the most legit venue in Sydney thanks in no small part to other Sydney favourites Future Classic. If you know what's up you'll be there.

Short Circuit

Binary is an amazing family of artists hailing out of Los Angeles. Every time we receive a submission from them it's a no brainer that it's top notch. Their most recent success came from the enormous NightWaves track 'Sweet Carrie' which tantalised the internet for about 6 weeks before we all got sick of the hype and picked ourselves up offa tha floor.

The other day they sent me their latest offering, this time by Short Circuit and his latest track, 'Let Go'. Short Circuit is Andrew Verner of Los Angeles. One of Binary's seven artists Short Circuit's unique take on indie dance is highlighted by his pop leaning vocoded vocals. After having been in indie rock bands for years, Verner took his music to the electronic realm in 2008. Since that time he's gained notoriety for his remixes of such artists as The Presets, Digitalism, and Michael Jackson. Short Circuit is well known in Los Angeles for his dynamic live show, which is a complex blend of live synths, live vocals, and on-the-fly remixes. Let Go is his first single as Short Circuit, and will be followed by an EP to come in 2010.

Let Go starts of in a very token arpeggiated electronic manor, much like Fischerspooner, but quickly seperates itself from the pack with it's vocoded lyrics and percussion breakdowns. In all this track is a powerhouse of indie/electro hybrid passion and I can only imagine what it sounds like live. To be expected, the NightWaves remix is stellar, beginning in a softer place than the original but still ramping up the attitude later on in a whirl of pan synths and tribal drums. I've also included the Popskarr remix which you should definitely check out.

Kids of 88

I'm a bicentennial baby. So is Murray. Think it meant that we got a certificate from the Australian Government when we were born indicating that we were beyond awesome.

Kids of 88 are a two piece New Wave pop group out of New Zealand. Their sound is kind of like crystal castles times bubblegum pop. Those who know me know that I like popular music and this is just about as pop as they come. No surprise I found this over on The Pop Sucker.

They signed a major international record deal in April with Sony, and there album is coming out in August. They will be New Zealand's answer to Bieber but they'll be so much more then that as well.

Civil Civic #2

Sorry for the lack of posts of late. A combination of NBA finals basketball, broken internet connections and study has left me without the means of blogging of which I crave. Got something new for you that I can't sit on anymore however.

If you cast your mind back a couple of weeks ago you'll recall we jumped right on the Civil Civic band wagon after picking up on their phenomenal track 'Less Unless' from a bunch of bloggers who are a lot hipper than us. Well I'm pleased to share with you today the news of their latest two tracks. Less Unless left me with a melted face, however not unlike the cobrasnake I had an ultimate make-over and am back to mediocre Max Smart level, or Max Mediocre as is fast becoming the term.

Run Overdrive takes it foot off the pedal a touch, but still manages to capture an enormous amount of raw musical emotion, which is ridiculous considering the lack of lyrics. It's the type of guitar work I could envisage Kele from Bloc Party singing over, if not enjoying. Don't know why.

if you've a rock bone in your body you'll froth. That's all I'm going to say about Run Overdrive.

Hunting Sharks

Jason Hunter and The Great Red Shark have been making music together for close to five years and ‘Wander With Me’ is a track from a 3-month writing session held in the summer of 2008.

It starts with a soothing and hypnotic atmosphere close to the Portishead-sound and then soars aboard the wings of an eagle through a rain storm, out the other side like the feeling of a panadol after a hangover. Ambo-pop with a solid kick drum. This is a really solid track. It's early morning love making music.

Not sure what it is, but there's a lot of white boys making comedy music. It's really vanilla.

The Deli Boys have just made a track and they're going to be releasing an entire EP this summer. It's really vanilla. It sounds like a combination of Flight of the Concords and reverb and is good for a laugh. The track we've got available for you is called PR Girls. I know a lot of PR Girls, and by rule they're pretty bangin'. Not as good as advertising girls though, or event planning girls either. But still pretty bangin'.

Pleased to get an email today out of Amsterdam, from production and DJ duo Mason.

For those of you who can cast your minds back, they're the guys who made the absolutely HUGE tune a few years back called Exceeder, which is more commonly known as the backing track to Perfect by Princess Superstar. Check it out on youtube here.

The Dutch pair, consisting of Lason and Coen both have extremely diverse musical background but believe they can come together under the Mason banner to suit just about anyones taste. They've just released their latest track Corrected, and cleared the remixes by Riva Starr, Alex Gopher and Freaky Friday for release to help whet your appetite for what is destined to be not only a dance floor killing track, but without a doubt, one of the years top dance floor's album.

The new single, released on Mason's very own Animal Languague imprint, features Mason's signature driving electro house production along with vocals from DMC of the hip hop legend RUN DMC as well as Australia's own Sam Sparro.

In my opinion the original is the perfect combination of hip hop lyrics and driving electro, a combination I fell in love with a number of years ago thanks to the Bagraiders infamous 'Discobelle' podcast. While there are a lot of big names signed on the remix this track, the pick of the bunch is the Freaky Friday track which uses a bit of wobble and tech to drive this track. The Alex Gopher track has a deep driving bassline, and glitchy synths, while the Riva Starr remix is a touch disappointing I believe. It's the trade mark tech treatment and lacks a little bit of edge compared to the other songs. Despite this, they're three great remixes which any punter interested in bangin' club toons will appreciate.

SoundCloud's really helping to enhance exposure of artists worldwide. That's a good thing.

Take a look at Go Go Bizkitt! for example. Bloke has gone from bedroom producer to internationally credible artist in a few short months on the back of his soundcloud (and talent no doubt). Not once have I ever received an email asking for me to host his songs, but I know all about them cuz I can track his marked progress on soundcloud.

The best thing about running your own blog is you can express your own opinion on issues that have nothing to do with music. So, contrary to popular opinion, I dislike Jessica Watson. Or perhaps I simply dislike her public relations crew. She set out 7 months ago, ran into a ship, we all laughed... then she fucked off around the world to attempt a record she fell 2700 nautical miles short of. Some might call this an epic fail. I know someone who didn't fail though... Jesse Martin ring any bells? Where was his grand welcoming, along with his own special edition of the two biggest newspapers in the country and Prime Minister's welcome?

I think everyone needs to calm down. City Calm Down, if you will (shittest segue ever).

City Calm Down are from Melbourne. They have some band members, all breathe oxygen... nothing special. Their music however is something else. In the dizzying world of remix kings and laptop heroes, it is rare to discover an electro group worthy of note. They are everything you would expect from an Australian Indie-Electro band, and so very much more. Groups like Grafton Primary and Lost Valentinos spring to mind, but what really sets them apart is their raw vocals and highly experimental sound which somehow remains pop-friendly. I actually thought they hadn't had their EP mastered. And this is why I thoroughly enjoy them. They fill the void in the Oz-Electro scene whilst simultaneously revolutionising it and propelling it in a new direction.

I have no hesitation in predicting enormous things for these guys. They will be a big deal.

I've selected three tracks from their upcoming EP, which will be launched at the Toff in Town, Melbourne on July 24. More info on this gig can be found here in the next few weeks. My pick of the litter is Lost. Trapped. Sax solos are so sexy.

This song is a bit late, but I saw it bouncing around the inter web and thought I'd look into it a bit more.

Shook is a young bloke out of the Netherlands. So far at Groove City we've had a good track record with kids out of the Netherlands, two from two that don't play Dutch Haus. Good news indeed.

Now he's only been on my rader since he emailed us last week with his remix of New York's 'Penguin Prison', but a quick snoop around the net and it's easy to find out that the kid goes a lot deeper then that. In fact, his website, www.SHOOKMUSIC.com, carries his own personal blog where he details his exploits including the appearance of mysterious Red Tapes with his face on them popping up all over Europe. It also has a number of videos where you can see him jamming out live on his synths making instructional videos for various companies who commissioned him as somewhat of a spokes person, albeit it under a cloud of mystery surrounding his identity.

The thing that is important in all this is that he is really good at what he does. Not unlike our either favourite dutch friends Keljet he is capable of producing an electro sound that is still quite pop, retro and carrying a lot of girth. You'll notice this in his Penguin Prison remix. I'm guessing through sheer talent alone as well, he's extremely versatile. Other artists he reminds me of are Kavinksy, Cassian, Breakbot and the Justice remix of Klaxons. Oh yes.

Upon request, Shook was glad to share with us one of his originals, Something About You. At first listen I found the song a touch boring compared to the Penguin Prison remix, but after listening to it a few times it's grown on my immensely. It's a slow jam with some token vocoder work but it comes together as a sublime concoction of swoon and synths. This bad boy has got lounge written all over it. It will be featured on The Glow EP which will see it's daylight in June. The EP will contain five original tracks including 1986, Flash and Something about you.

There was a time that the best thing about Canberra was the freeway built around it. There was a time when the best thing about Canberra was the porn and fire works. There was a time when the best thing about Canberra was the Questacon, but all of this has begun to change in recent years.

In a city filled with politicians and university students, it was realistically only a matter of time before power and frivolous behaviour caught up in what has become a real party hub. The big winner out of all of this is the rest of us in a way, as we begin to reap the benefits of the emerging music scene in the town, one such example of course being DJ Bricksta.

Now this isn't a name that I've been familiar with for too long but as his hilarious bio assures me, despite his age, he's been around the game for a while. At an age where most of his friends were still being dressed by their mothers, Bricksta was in his parents hidden love dungeon thumbing through disco, funk and rock vinyls. Once he discovered that those shiny grooved plastic circles were a magical gateway to the sedentary lifestyle of a superstar disc jockey, he saved up all the two dollar coins from his job at the ‘you’ve got a friend’ booth at Sexpo and purchased his first set of turntables.

In recent times, kid has been hosting radio shows, holding down club residencies at some of the freshest joints in the Capital and also been producing a lot of high quality beats. At the moment he has a upcoming 2 track EP on Canberra label 30hz Moth as well as a current release, "Cold Soul" out on Binary Releases (its a deep house tune), which can be found here.

One thing that Bricksta has is definitely versatility. His tracks range from funk to deep house, from filter house to breaks and even further out to the cosmos than you might have thought possible. It's truly a testement to the talent and the potential that this Canberra child prodigy has.

For your interest, here are 3 tunes that I've found that I'm sure you'll really enjoy. The first is a touch housy, the second is a bumpy James Brown remake (win) and the third is a great cover of a famous Beatles track. I thought I'd throw a warning on this one... big room banging electro will follow. But I promise it's more enjoyable than surfing RedTube.

About 3 or 4 years ago my partner in crime here at Groove City introduced me to this track.

Pussy (Original Mix) - Nadastrom

When I first heard it this track really did blow me away with the huge drop that the whole song builds to. I listened to it non-stop for weeks and whenever I did play a crappy set, I'd drop this and think I was god. 'Pussy' is still an awesome track, and 4 years on is still streets ahead of some of the other electro crap that gets pumped out these days. How can two guys be this good?

When Matt Stromberg and Dave Nada put their rings together they create a powerful force destined to save the electro world from Steve Aoki. And for those who know a thing or two, I acknowledge Nadastrom have ties to Dim Mak but most of their work is done through Universal now (or so I believe). Besides, Steve doesn't have enough time to fuck over two electro powerhouses.

These tracks aren't new, but the reason I post them? Well, Nadastrom are set to play Oxford Art Factory on June 19th. Rumours of an Australian tour floated around in December last year, but now we can confirm one Sydney show, two in Melbourne. They'll also visit Newcastle, Wollongong, Perth, Brisbane and Canberra.

Stay tuned, I will post a link to tickets and promotional paraphernalia related to the show when it comes to hand.

This track is also pretty good. I love Shiny Toy Guns, I think they are brilliant across all albums and their sound is spot on. Nadastrom gave it the remix treatment and bang. Heavy, bass-driven gurnin' music. Kids be grinding their teeth off to this!

These guys have some mad skillz. We've spoken about them before on Groove City before. For those who don't know, Brent and Stu make some gorgeous synth sounds and coupled with their intense desire for success and the ensuing riches of women and remix work proceed to pump out quality remixes and originals on the regular.

This time they've tackled Yaesayer's tune One. It's really good.

They've also made a fantastic new original track, 'driving to your house party'. It's already been given the tick of approval by the likes of Aeroplane and as you can read over at Stoney Roads it's a pretty intense 116bpm track packed full of vintage synthesisers and an aweosome percussion break down which they've accurately described as being fitting for an 80s detective show. Think moustaches, handcuffs, big hair and flairs. I really haven't thought about flairs for a while and I'm glad I haven't. Hadn't. Oh darn.

I though I'd take this opportunity to celebrate our 100th post by going in a direction that we haven't gone since Hype Machine picked us up. LightsoverLA sent me an email earlier. Stormy couldn't sleep, so he decided to do a dubstep remix. At first I was a bit off, but I was always going to post it. And I think Stormy secretly knew that... bastard. By the way, how freaking awesome is Storm as a name. Real or not, chicks be frothin'!

Even though a vast ocean seperates us, I think I have a lot in common with Mr Storm. Whilst I do exude a love of disco and new/dream/chill wave electronica, I have a secret love of dubstep.

So, given that I've already posted some dub, I might as well post some more. These are the best dub tracks I've ever heard, only because they make you uncomfortable. Civil Civic are two Aussie's living in London and living the musicians dream. They're drinking pints, making tunes and preparing to embark on a European tour. Before all of this however they released a 5 track tape with some amazing songs on it. The group consists of 2 guys, a couple of guitars, a few keyboards and some incredible raw sounds which come together in a totally disorganised and desirable style.

It's the definition of a beautiful mess. A lot more beautiful than mess though.

Just another blog post. An international one! From Miami, Florida! I've never been to Florida, but popular culture tells me it is not unlike purgatory... you more or less go there when you're waiting to cross over. If natural causes take too long, I guess you could jump in with the alligators.

If I was going to die and I decided to go to Florida, then I would want to go out listening to something like this. I'm usually very impartial to house music. It does nothing for me. But this remix is cruisy, very easy to listen to and doesn't bore the crap out of me... like most house music. The vocals are remain the feature throughout the song, which is the only good thing about the original.

The only real problem I have with this track is the name of the producer. Danny Dance is a lame moniker. His real name is Alex D. Ortiz, which is a way better name.

Mash ups have become the fast food of the music industry. While they began life as a genuine production style and genre, the ease and availability of production programs these days has meant that for any wannabe, mash ups are a quick and delicious way to make tunes to try and get exposure. Like the fast food industry however, there has been a recent back lash against unhealthy food that has made us into a nation of fat people.

What I've got for you today is the Burger Fuel of the fast food world. It's fresh, delicious and better for you. While it takes a little longer to make, there wouldn't be a fast food fan out there who would complain given the quality produced. You feel me?

Play is a young charismatic, upcoming mashup artist originating from Melbourne, Australia. Better known to family and friends as Petera Tamarua, he is determined to become a household name in the mashup world. He takes inspiration from the likes of Girl Talk, 2 many DJ’s, E-603 and DJ Shadow, and is currently working on a debut album which is due for release soon. Which will symbolise the beginning of Play.

What I have for you today is two tracks that help demonstrate his versatility and the creativity of his work. The first track 'Place it like that' is an extremely well cut together example of how many samples Play can cut together and still make sound dope. The second takes some classic rap with a classic beat and makes you smile.

Me loves me some Disco. Incidentally, we recently received some feedback on the 'Nu-Disco' scene. Perhaps it was more of an opinion, but the basic concerns expressed related to an underlying fear of Disco invasion by Electro-heads. This may be expressed with an Australian orientation, but it is applicable on an international scale also. I think it can apply to other musical genres too. Electro was around a long time before Daft Punk did another world tour and Steve 'please kill yourself' Aoki raped the Beetroots and the scene was invaded by fluro faggots. It seems Dubstep is growing in popularity too. And now Disco has popped its head up, as if we'd forgotten it ever existed.

DJ Agent 86 has been around for over 20 years. That is, he's been DJing and producing since 1989. So it is safe to say he knows a thing or two about 'the scene'. He's been around long before this Nu-Disco scene emerged. He has a pretty impressive collection of accolades too, including (amongst others) Inpress Magazine's 'Local DJ/Producer of the Year' in 2009. I honestly cannot find any information on this Melbournian, but his music is the shit.

His latest collection of work dubbed 'All About the Money' drops May 17, and will be available on Beatport. Here is the first promotional single from said collection at 320 kbps. Beautiful. This is definitely a party track, with a large collection of vocal samples giving it a more hip-hop/funk feel over a very groovy disco track.

Tom Nelson, a.k.a Go Go Bizkitt! is one of the hardest working people in dance music today. I first got in contact with the producer after we exchanged mixtapes after seeing each other post on the same artist fan page, and at the time I noticed beyond his exceptional music taste he also had some interesting productions in the works. A couple of months passed and soon after I began to embark upon the world of SoundCloud, I noticed that Go Go Bizkitt! had even more pots on the boil with a stellar bunch of remixes all available for free and upon getting in touch with him he told me that he'd just been signed on to release some EPs. Plural.

His style is quite unique, incorporating the ideas of french house with it's filters and loops and combining this with soulful guitar and funk basslines. The result is delightful, fresh and something that is capable of absolutely slaying dance floors.

Groove City:Perhaps the first thing that people notice about you is your name.. not only is it unusual but it’s riddled with potential for spelling/grammar mistakes.. what’s the story behind it?

Go Go Bizkitt!:Ha ha yeah it is the first thing that people ask when they see me, the name does actually have a story behind it but only a few know it and unfortunately that's how i'm keeping it. However it has been misspelled a lot ... like Gogo Biskit.

Groove City:You’ve been really busy in 2010, can you tell us a little bit about what you’ve been working on and what you’ve released to date?

Go Go Bizkitt!:2010 has been absolutely crazy for me, i've really been getting good feedback that breeds more confidence to keep going & going!, My recent releases have been "The Stutterfunk EP" for Deepfunk records & "The Bizkitt EP" out on Mikita Skyy. Both are my own take on French house that seems to be hitting the spot at the moment which is strange for me in this time where everywhere is noisy thrashy electro/Fidget/Dubstep... at least in England anyways.
I've also got a ton of other tracks in the pipeline & a collab project will be unveiled by summertime..plus a free remix/re-rub every few weeks cos i like to keep busy ha!

Groove City:You hail from a place that a lot of your down under fan base knows nothing about.. Somerset, England. What kind of place is it and what’s the music scene like? Do you guys get jersey shore over there?

Go Go Bizkitt!:Yeah we get Jersey Shore!, i originally come from a small village near Edinburgh, Scotland & have only been here a few years, it's a really laid back place where the weather is a lot better than home & everyone has a "lord of the rings" accent haha, the music scene is like most of southern England which is mainly Dubstep/Fidget/Thrash Electro..... but i'm trying to help bring something different to the night, just as long as everyone is having fun!

Groove City:Your French House/Filter House/French Touch/Disco Funk style has really regained a lot of popularity over the last few months around the blog world and particularly around Sydney. What has been the biggest influence on your style and how long has it taken you to perfect your sound?

Go Go Bizkitt!:My influences have always been the original lads such as Roule/Crydamoure/Sneak/Jess & Crabbe etc up to todays prime that are Breakbot/The Phantoms Revenge/DCUP/TreasureFingers/Moonchild/Eumig & Chinon to name a few. 2 tracks in particular have always inspired me since the very first time i heard them which were "Hi-Fidelity" by Daft Punk & "G.M.F" by Deelat....i got this sound nailed years ago but i never put my work out until the start of 2010.... better late than never i suppose.

Groove City:For all the tech-heads out there can you give us a grocery list of your studio set up?

Go Go Bizkitt!:I use Pro tools/Live 8/Sylenth/Gladiator 2 & a couple of other cheeky vst's..... plus an overactive imagination helps ha!

Groove City:Living in Europe, what are the opportunities like for touring over there?

Go Go Bizkitt!:Europe is a fantastic place for touring...... i hear, unfortunately with me still being in the military i cannot get time off to tour..... but that will be changing soon!

Groove City:Where is your favourite place to play at the moment and describe to us your dream gig (including supports)..

Calling In Sick x Cullen

Sydney duo Calling In Sick have fallen off the pace a touch since they first burst onto the scene a couple of years ago with remixes of the Bag Raiders and Midfield General to name but a few, but it appears they're back as polished as ever with their latest remix effort of Melbourne-based Cullen.

As the press release tells me, Cullen is a one man musical enterprise who combines multiple instruments to 'evoke the raw sentiment of Deathcab for Cutie plied with the textured electronics of Royksopp and the off-kilter pop sensibilities of Phoenix all united under the banner of his singular, soaring vocals'. So if that's your biscuit then I suggest you jump on board.

This remix from Calling In Sick of the track "Easily Impressed" does soar. It reminds me of some of the recent work by Def Starr, how ever the progression and bass line is this piece gives it a lot more edge. Definitely one for fans of synth laden disco and leather shoes. Don't sleep on this bad boy.

It's wrong for me to say I hate the Bloody Beetroots, because after all, back in '07 when I first heard there work I really liked them. I just think I hate Warp mostly. What a pig awful noise. Beyond this though, too many people have adopted warp1.9 as a lifestyle. The same type of people who constantly describe their behaviour as 'loose'. People who have ever finished a sentence with Woop Woop need help.

This is a difficult topic to argue though, and I don't want to risk offence to those in question as you never know who is going to come out of the closet as a Warp fan. There's no denying that DCUP arrived in a hurry when he impressed us all with his style EP last year on Ajax's Sweat It Out label, but his rise to the absolute creme de la crop (is that a thing?) of Sydney's, then Australia's and now the world's top rung of producers has been nothing short of meteoric. You only need to look over at the Aria Club Charts to find his name on 6 songs out of the top 32, including the number 1, 'We No Speak Americano', his collaboration with fellow Sydney Sweaters Yolanda Be Cool which has been there for 10 weeks and counting. Beyond the Aria Charts, he also has smashed the beatport charts in a time where other Aussies such as Cassian, Flight Facilities and Light Year have also enjoyed major success.

Anyway, based on this, it's always exciting to hear new things from the young man and by doing a little bit of scrounging I was able to find some pretty sweet things that he's done recently.

His remix of Piper & Fernandez is a real hybrid of DCUP and his alter ego Hi Beams who is known for his much edgier tech work. I've always enjoyed his Hi Beams stuff and this remix really bridges the gap between his styles with the result being pure win. Check it out. Props to Disco Workout for posting this.

Maybe a little bit late to the party on this, but just found a new group that I quite enjoy. From what I can source they're a four piece from London who describe they're style as 'Chop Pop'. Their remix of Marina and the Diamonds has created some great hype around them, but it was the work on the Phenomenal Hand Clap Band's single Baby which first caught my attention. The seem to fuse elements of funk, pop as well as guitars and strings together in quite a coherent manor. It's a touch of folk and in all it's pretty darn good.

You can hear a few of their originals on their MySpace. Definately worth checking out if you're in the mood for a wheat beer.

Do you like bands such as Holy Ghost, Aeroplane, Classixx, Todd Terje, and Crookers?

If you answered yes to all that then I'd say you're lying. Diversity like that is almost impossible. Crookers are quite shit. Only rookies like there new stuff. Apart from that delicious solo remix of 'Put You Hands On Me' <- youtoob

But seriously, if you like those other groups, apart from the fact that you probably have an amazing sex life, you've probably heard a little about Future Classic. Basically, Future Classic is an Australian record label and touring agency which has been responsible for bringing out some of the most progressive and delightful talent to grace our shores in recent memory. Apart from those 4 groups listed above all making delightful tunes, they've also all toured under the future classic banner.

From May 1st, Future Classics will be taking over the Civic Underground for it's new weekly party, 'Adult Disco'. For the first edition, Future Classics resident DJ's including FBi's James 'Big Time Timmy Jim' Mcinnies will be on the wheels of steel spinning some treats for us all, how ever in the months to come they've a host of internationals planned to tour which is exciting given there track record. Trust me this is something you want to be a part of.

To get y'all in the mood, Big Time Timmy Jim McInnies kindly dropped over their latest promo for the party which is excellent. It's a hefty hour and twenty minutes long, but believe me it's well worth your time. To quote one of the people who commented the mixtape, "This is real disco for adult people". I hope you can handle it.

I was liaising with a duo from Seattle called Beat Connection when they sent over a tracklist of a mix they'd put together. I'd already agreed to post them, but then I saw said tracklist and felt a warming sensation run down my spine. You'll see what I'm talking about momentarily.

The following track is from Beat Connection's upcoming EP release dubbed 'Beaches and Sky'. It's scheduled to be released in the next few months, and I must say it's nothing short of spectacular. Falling very much in line with the Washed Out/Neon Indian sound that is all the rage at the moment, 'Same Damn Time' features simple rhythmic backing with smooth keyboard samples. The off-beat synths that are almost filtered through the middle of the song bode well with the eerily emotive vocals. Overall, a very cool track. To quote my fellow blogger, it sucks that I've only heard about this track now while the Southern Hemisphere decends into Winter. This is as Summery as they come.

After limited experience in the blogging world, I've come to realise that there are two things that can propel your post the top 10 on the Hype Machine charts. Either a mash-up of some ridiculous tracks, or a remix by LightsoverLA. If you wanted a top 2 spot, you're better off the latter. Their Crystal Castles remix went to number 2; their Miike Snow remix went to number 2 (I think); and their Two Door Cinema Club went to number 1. Boom!

Here's another one for you. This time they've done a sneaky number on British duo 'Hurts'. You can check out the original and other work by them right here. This remix is more vocal heavy, and to truly appreciate the sound you really need decent headphones or a good sound system. Listening to this from your laptop may make it sound distorted or detract from what is again a solid production effort. This is because it's slightly more intense than past remixes. There is a lot going on, and it seems to bounce around a bit but the entire track makes you feel like your soaring over Los Angeles.
